Blunt Makes Show-Me Solutions Stop at First Chance for Children

Gov. Matt Blunt visited First Chance for Children today as part of his Show-Me Solutions initiative to recognize Missourians helping Missourians in communities across the heartland.

First Chance for Children is a partnership of the Columbia Housing Authority and Head Start that serves infants and toddlers, mostly from Columbia's Bear Creek public housing neighborhood. The center provides early education in a nurturing and stimulating environment to provide children a foundation to build a successful future.

"Children are eager to learn from a young age. I commend the staff of the First Chance for Children for their commitment to creating an environment favorable for learning," Blunt said. "First Chance for Children is just one of the countless examples of charitable organizations, community partnerships and the spirit of volunteerism making a positive impact on our state and in the lives of Missouri children."

First Chance for Children makes it possible to deliver high quality early education through a combination of state, federal, and private funds. The center serves as a model for future centers and a place where parents and providers can learn how to prepare children for school and for life.
